  • Istanbul is a city divided between two continents. So I guess I did the fastest globetrotting experience yet today— Asia and Europe within five minutes. Damn, I should win a Guinness world record. 😂 Double tap if you agree 😜
  • Traveling healed me from MY MIND.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Before I started traveling, I used to count calories, cut out foods, and do “intermittent fasting” when I felt bad about eating like crap. I used to be a workout junkie, and the gym was my second home.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I remember crying and praying to God for things to change. I could not stop my obsessive behavior. I hated food so much, but then I loved it. It was crazy behavior that sparked after I gained weight my
freshman year of college.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I only expressed this to a few people in college because I was A S H A M E D of it. I asked my boyfriend to take this picture of me...And this morning when I was adding my preset to it, I realized “oh shoot, I ate that pizza without thinking twice”.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So why did travel help? I wasn’t used to being so out of control with my food. I had no option but to go for that pizza at a gourmet grocery store in Italy since I had no kitchen. And when I was traveling, I was able to push aside my obsessive behavior to hang out with people over food and to enjoy it because I knew that memories were far more important.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also walked around a LOT. I am a pretty active person because I walk around quite a bit (especially in Europe). So to see that foods I called “bad” did not significantly change my body a lot because I was so active REALLY helped my mind. And it helped me to see that “bad” foods are actually a healthy part of the food culture in many countries.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I looooove eating healthy foods. And my mind goes a bit cookyyy without it. A lot of the times I would rather eat a salad over a burger— because that is just ME. But when I decide to eat that burger I no longer feel guilt.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m not saying traveling is a cure for obsessive eating patterns, but it helped me. The whole world eats differently. A little bit of everything won’t kill ya. Thanks travel for teaching me that. 💓
